Making the Podcast


Audacity Process

1st time setup
  1. Download Audacity
  2. Decide on a good place to store your project files. Use this spot every time you work on a podcast.
  3. First download and import the following macros

  1. Drag in 3 .wav files and order them like this: intro, service audio, outro
    1. Drag the service audio over to the right to listen to just it
  2. Trim the service recording down to just the sermon, make sure to cut out alter call.
  3. Apply the Reach Podcast Setup macro under Tools menu
  4. Listen to the beginning and end transitions, tweak timing and volume as needed
  5. Save the project
  6. Export high quality audio, and apply reasonable metadata for the author/album as Speaker/Sermon Series etc.

Upload to Spreaker

  1. Click Add episodes, upload file, add description from YouTube
  2. Name the episode similar to Holy Generosity Pt 1 | Dave Snyder
  3. Add some tags to help with discoverability
  4. Press Publish and confirm about not needing social posts

INFO Don't forget to replace the Sermon's audio on Subsplash with the podcast!


Reaper Process - Prepwork

  1. Have Reaper installed, and have service's Mic 1 .wav available
  2. Open the template project
  3. Save as new for this week's sermon, name something like "20251102 Sunday"
  4. Press Insert key and use the .wav on Channel 1

Reaper Process - Trimming & Processing

  1. Find a nice in point, just fine if there's a bit of music, add a short fade in
    • Channel one effect button (lower left) has a Slight EQ
    • Compresor has a slight auto makeup on the channel
  2. Find a nice out point and add a fade
    • Typically after prayer and before alter call prayer.
    • Can also cut out other things like ads/mentioning a book. Etc.
  3. Select all of channel one, right click, item processing normalize at -20db.
    • Have to select common gain if spliced
    • Normalize is a manual step. Hit ok.
  4. Line up the outro audio clip, usually with a 3 second fade on channel 1. Fade already on outro clip.

INFO We have an Epidemic sound subscription for background audio, or misc effects and such.

Reaper Process - Rendering

  1. Double click on timeline, select all, right click. Make region from selection.
  2. Can put in metadata as desired
  3. Right click region in region bar, render region. Save in folder for output.
  4. Render out. double check the transitions.
