Mindset
Often the Sound Technician ends up being responsible for "everything" in a service. Every problem, every solution, every last minute addition/tweak to the schedule.
Quite a few things outside of working with the worship team and chasing after an exellent mix!
A Producer is how we can address this issue, giving some of that responsibility and authority to someone dedicated to the service as a whole instead of a specific role.
You are the grease that helps services run smoothly, and while primarily focused on solving problems, you have the authority to decide what is and isn't a problem, and when to fix the problem. For example:
- the mix is too loud, have the sound tech reign it in
- ask for specific camera shots from the livestream operator
- ask for specific lighting tweaks/slides
- tell the pastoral team when something isn't working, and especially when the service will be impacted
Requirements
- been trained and have experience on ALL production roles
- read through and know how to use this wiki as a resource
- able to provide feedback in a constructive way
- be able to teach & train people when unexpected things arise
- know about the gear we have on hand and how to use it
Responsibilities
- Outside Service
- review the service plan, ask questions if things look odd
- Service (-1hr)
- spend 5 minutes with each person serving in production
- ask if they have any questions/needs for today
- ask what they wish was "easier" about their role
- serve as first point-of-contact from congregation & staff
- check your phone and field questions/feedback/issues to the appropriate people
- spend 5 minutes with each person serving in production
Random Notes
Ideally, a Producer arrives with ample time to look for & troubleshoot issues, touch base with the team and talk for 10-15 minutes, and then participate/engage with the rest of service.
